Key Responsibilities
Optometric Clinical Care
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations and vision assessments
- Diagnose and manage ocular conditions and diseases within the scope of optometric practice
- Evaluate patients for refractive errors and prescribe corrective lenses and other appropriate treatments
- Perform appropriate diagnostic testing and interpret results
- Identify ocular and systemic conditions requiring additional evaluation or referral
- Develop individualized treatment and follow-up plans
- Provide patient education regarding eye health, treatment options, preventive care, and follow-up
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as clinically appropriate
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic medical records
Patient Care & Collaboration
- Provide compassionate, respectful, and culturally competent care to patients of diverse backgrounds
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up care when additional medical or specialty services are needed
- Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive eye care
- Promote continuity of care and a positive patient experience
Quality & Compliance
- Provide care in accordance with accepted standards of optometric practice and applicable federal and state regulations
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other applicable healthcare requirements
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Maintain appropriate documentation, licensure, certifications, and continuing education
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and organizational initiatives as appropriate
Qualifications
Required
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program
- Current, unrestricted South Carolina Optometry license or eligibility to obtain one
- Eligible for credentialing and participation with applicable public and private health plans
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a healthcare team
- Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care
Experience
- Experienced Optometrists are welcome
- New graduates are encouraged to apply
- Community health, primary care, or medically underserved population experience is a plus but not required
