Key Responsibilities

Optometric Clinical Care

  • Perform comprehensive eye examinations and vision assessments
  • Diagnose and manage ocular conditions and diseases within the scope of optometric practice
  • Evaluate patients for refractive errors and prescribe corrective lenses and other appropriate treatments
  • Perform appropriate diagnostic testing and interpret results
  • Identify ocular and systemic conditions requiring additional evaluation or referral
  • Develop individualized treatment and follow-up plans
  • Provide patient education regarding eye health, treatment options, preventive care, and follow-up
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as clinically appropriate
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic medical records


Patient Care & Collaboration

  • Provide compassionate, respectful, and culturally competent care to patients of diverse backgrounds
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up care when additional medical or specialty services are needed
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive eye care
  • Promote continuity of care and a positive patient experience


Quality & Compliance

  • Provide care in accordance with accepted standards of optometric practice and applicable federal and state regulations
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other applicable healthcare requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, licensure, certifications, and continuing education
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and organizational initiatives as appropriate


Qualifications

Required

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program
  • Current, unrestricted South Carolina Optometry license or eligibility to obtain one
  • Eligible for credentialing and participation with applicable public and private health plans
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a healthcare team
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care


Experience

  • Experienced Optometrists are welcome
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Community health, primary care, or medically underserved population experience is a plus but not required
